This map highlights the countries which were the focus of the project: European Union (EU) Member States, EU candidate countries, those covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and those collaborating in the implementation of European migration policy (for further information, see “Methodology”).
By clicking on a country, you can access a data-sheet with information on the detention of migrants at the national level. The data-sheet contains details, displayed by year, of the number of camps, the total known capacity of camps, the types of existing camps, the maximum duration of detention, the number of persons detained, the number of persons deported, the progress of transposition of the “Return” Directive (for EU countries and those associated with the application of this Directive).
On each data-sheet a colour code shows the level of information obtained about the country in question. Contact details are also available through the country data-sheets (see also “Contribute!”) in order to enable you to provide new information and/or to suggest corrections.
It is also possible to search for a country using the list of countries. When you click on a country, the list of camps identified in the country appears. At the end of this list of camps there is a link to the corresponding country data-sheet. By clicking on the name of a camp, you can access a data-sheet presenting information on the site (see “Encampment Map”).
