Note
In December 2006, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament commissioned a study on the conditions of migrants and asylum seekers in reception, detention and transit centres. This study, carried out by STEPS and completed in December 2007, is the first on this subject, based on field investigations conducted in all EU Member States (twenty-five countries at the time of commission).
The map below, taken from the report published on the completion of the study, shows the number, location, capacity and forms migrant detention mechanisms in XXXNOMDUPAYSXXX in 2006.
